Daily Bible Reading – May 2022 God’s Renewing Word of Promiseنموونە
May 20
Introduction
Saul is instructed to attack the Amalekites and to destroy everything they have. However, Saul spares King Agag’s life and he does not kill the best of the livestock. [In today's contemporary context, this passage presents a complex moral dilemma and may be troubling because of its reference to the annihilation of a people. The key point in today's reading is Saul's disobedience to God's command which will be cited in tomorrow's reading (1 Samuel 15:10-25).]
Scripture Reading
1 Samuel 15:1-9
Today’s Key Verse:1 Samuel 15:1
Samuel said to Saul, “I am the one whom the LORD sent to anoint you king of his people Israel. Now listen to what the LORD Almighty says.”
Reflect
What instructions did Samuel give to Saul (verse 3)? What reason is given for the LORD wanting to punish the Amalekites (verse 2)? In what ways did Saul fail to adhere to the instructions he was given?
Pray
Almighty God, teach me to heed your voice and walk in your ways. I worship you and seek to serve and honor you with all my heart. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
1 Samuel 15:10-35: Saul is rejected as king.
