The God of Answered Prayers

DAY 2 OF 3

Pray as Jesus Prayed

If we truly understood how present Father God is to us, we would pray as Yeshua prayed. We would be bold and confident before the Lord, knowing that He hears us. We would know that He loves us, cares about us, and wants to respond to us. We would realize that He hears even the faintest whisper of our hearts and responds to us in love, compassion, understanding, and mercy.

In John 12:28, Jesus, speaking of His coming death, said, “‘Father, glorify Your name.’ Then a voice came out of heaven: ‘I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.’” Notice that after Yeshua spoke to His Father, His Father responded instantly, saying, “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” I want you to know that when you open your heart to the Father, He speaks back to you. The problem often is that you and I don’t always have ears to hear what He’s saying to us, and we can’t always perceive His word to us because His ways are higher than our ways, even as the heavens are higher than the earth (Isa. 55:8–9). But when you and I are crying out to God, He’s responding to us. When we pray to God in earnestness and faith, and in a way that’s pleasing to Him, He is going to respond.

Sometimes if we don’t receive an answer to our prayers right away or don’t see God move immediately, we think He’s not responding or doesn’t hear. But we must remember that “with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day” (2 Pet. 3:8).

God’s perspective of time is different from ours. He sees the end from the beginning (Isa. 46:10), and even when we don’t know what Father God is doing, we should be confident that He is answering the cry of our hearts.

Notice also that in John 12:27, before going to the cross, Jesus said, “Now My soul has become troubled.” I want to point out that Messiah Yeshua was talking to the Father about His feelings. He was sharing His life with the Father. You may have thought, “The Lord knows everything about me, so why should I have to tell Him about myself?” God wants us to share our lives with Him. Our Creator wants us to talk to Him. He wants to be in relationship with you and me, and He wants us to experience Him subjectively.
