Through the Bible: Luke

DAY 11 OF 11

It is Never Too Late to Truly Repent

And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Luke 23:43 (ESV)

This verse is the answer from Jesus to the thief who was crucified on the same day with Him. This thief understood who Jesus was and repented of his sins. Jesus opened the door of Heaven for him.

This passage gives assurance that it is never too late to look to the Lord Jesus. It is true that those who truly repent, even if it is in the final moments of their life, will be forgiven by God and taken to Heaven to be with Him.

It also demonstrates that salvation is by grace through faith alone in Christ. Our good works and righteousness do not buy our entrance into God’s presence, but faith in God secures the forgiveness of sins and everlasting life. Salvation is the free gift from Jesus Christ.

Prayer

Father, thanks for the inestimable gift of salvation given for free to all that trust in Your name. We thank You that our sins have been forgiven because of our trust and faith in You. Let us be empowered to live with Your compassion, forgiveness, love, and strength. Let us truly allow Your Spirit to work in our hearts and lives, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Luke

As the longest book in the New Testament, Luke makes the purpose of his writing clear at the beginning: to investigate and write an account of the Gospel. As a Gentile physician, Luke has deliberately recorded many healing miracles of Jesus and His care for the social outcasts. The Gospel is summarised in this proclamation of Jesus, “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
