Put “me” to death
We must surrender our lives to God. That statement means we have to die! That's right, we must die! We must put the flesh with all its lusts and desires to death. That is the consequence of belonging to Christ. Our ego can no longer reign if we want to truly belong to Him.
Always remember that we cannot be our own master. Why? Because we are mortal and limited; and within that limitation and mortality, we have a destructive nature. We must die to ourselves.
Sin begins when humans do not want to be servants but masters of everything. Humans want to be like God. The devil offers this to humans and causes them to fall. Humans want to be free - they might feel that they have the power to be like God but don't realize that they are separated from the true source of life. Humans have died. Mankind has truly perished.
Jesus Christ replaced mankind with his death on the cross. His death and resurrection raised us from the dead. We can have life in Christ. However, our “I” who has been in power all times must die! The dying process of I takes place every day for the rest of our lives. We have the potential to be returned to God's original design, and this process can only continue after “I” was crucified.
Reflection:
1. Is your “I” still alive? How dominant is it?
2. If you are still struggling with your ego, how hard is it for you to turn “ME” off? What slows it down or speeds it up?
Practice: Surrender ourselves to the One who created us.
