Training Your Sensitivity
Isaiah 50:4
When we were children, we used to distinguish the sound of the vehicle used by our parents. We would know from its sound whether that motorbike or car was going from or coming to our home. We were so used to hearing that voice that we became sensitive to the sound of our parents' vehicle. We would also know the sounds of the other vehicles passing by because our ears were sensitive to distinguish them.
The same thing happens in our relationship with God. We need to learn to be sensitive to hear God's voice. The Lord might not directly speak to us as He spoke to Moses or Abraham, but we have the Bible - which is equivalent to God's voice for us today. We train our sensitivity when we read the Bible. We train our ears to hear God when we listen to Him. We exercise our sensitivity to Him when we use our hands and feet to do His word. Let us make reading, hearing, and doing His word our habit because all of these will make us sensitive.
Sensitivity to God's voice will make us sensitive to God's will. Being sensitive to God's will makes us desire to please Him with our actions. We will have the wisdom to make the right decisions and do the right things. With that sensitivity, we will also love our spouse and children. We will work diligently because we know God wants us to do things as if we were doing them for Him. We will serve God wholeheartedly and choose joy during difficult circumstances.
Building sensitivity to God also enables us to be effective witnesses. A sensitive life will bless not only us but also our neighbors. Other people need our sharpness to face their struggles. Nothing will make us happier than being an effective witness for God.
Reflection:
1.How sensitive are you to God's voice? Have you been practicing that sensitivity?
2.Can you distinguish between the voice of God and the voice of this world (the devil)? How do you do that?
Practice: The practice of being sensitive to God's voice does not happen instantly. Let us do the things that build our sensitivity.
