Dangerous Prayersنموونە
I Was Not Prepared
I remember the moment vividly. Arms raised high, tears welling up in my eyes, heart practically bursting from my chest as, with every ounce of earnestness I could muster, I cried out to God to break my heart for what breaks His—everything I am for His kingdom’s cause, as I walk from earth into eternity. And I meant it. I meant it with all I had within me.
And while I meant it, I was not prepared for what I was really praying for.
That’s the nature of dangerous prayers. We think we know what we’re asking for, but, if we knew, would we really ask for it?
What followed from that moment for me was years of God continually showing me what broke His heart. The brokenness I witnessed was vast and wide, and I’m still working through how He wants me to respond to what He has uncovered my eyes to see.
And while it has been, and still is, difficult to navigate the journey God has taken me on, one thing has remained true, and I believe is true of all dangerous prayers: not once have I walked alone. My eyes have been opened to seeing God at work, to watch as He masterfully weaves healing, value, worth, hope, love, trust, grace and mercy into the situations and lives of people. My eyes have truly delighted in His ways. All because I prayed a dangerous prayer.
What prayer is your heart crying out to pray, but the fear of where God might lead you is holding you back?
