Spring Cleaning for Your Heartنموونە
Decide What to Keep
You have taken a good look at your heart, laying out everything inside. You did the excavation work in this spring cleaning series.
So, what do you do with all that’s left?
Going through my closet looks so easy as I peruse Pinterest. My feed is flooded with ideas for getting rid of things I don’t need so I’m left with only the best.
- Turn hangers around!
- Donate every 3rd item!
- Create a capsule wardrobe!
The internet screams so many things that it all just sounds like chaos, and I think it’s easier to close my closet and go eat a brownie.
It can be like that with the heart stuff, too. It’s easy to get overwhelmed listening to every well-meaning theory of what’s best for us. But the bottom line is that these people don’t know you or me personally. They don’t know the joy or the hurt, the experiences or the broken places you carry.
That’s why we can go to God and ask for help.
Here are a few questions to start with as you look at each thing you’ve uncovered in your heart:
- Does this honor God?
- Does it belong here right now?
- Is this the best thing for me?
- Was this meant for a different season in my life?
- Do I need to let this go?
Asking God isn’t a one-and-done activity.
He’s not a gumball machine. He wants you to be in relationship with Him. He tells us to come to Him, over and over, to petition Him for answers. And the best news? He promises His peace when we do!
A quick prayer for today:
Thank You, Father, for being here and for knowing me.
Help me come to You for help. I don’t want to rely on anyone or anything but You, and what You know to be best for me. Give me wisdom and show me how to come to You for the answers I long for.
I will seek You over and over, all of my days. In Jesus' name, Amen.

About this Plan
There’s one spot forgotten on our spring cleaning checklists, and it happens to be the most important: our hearts. It doesn’t matter how clean your house is if your heart is covered in cobwebs. Take a journey with me as we focus on throwing open the windows of our hearts to let in the Light!
