Rebuilding Resilience

DAY 2 OF 3

GOD COMFORTS US

The Bible is God’s means of speaking into our lives. He speaks to us to comfort us and reassure us that we are not alone.

Read the following passages about God’s role as our Comforter during times of sorrow and pain.

He holds us in his arms. Isaiah 40:11

He comforts us with his Word. Psalm 119: 50, 92

We can pass on this same comfort to others when they suffer. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Throughout this program, we have discussed numerous biblical individuals who endured tremendous pain and suffering. Many of these resulted in rebuilding and resilience. Listen to how Naomi’s story ends from the Book of Ruth.

NAOMI’S STORY

Reflect & Respond

Optional Tip: Journaling your responses to the scripture and follow up questions can help you process what you're learning and see your progress towards healing over time.

As you reflect on the passages you read in today's study, consider how God has met you in your trial. Read the ending of Naomi's story and think about how God redeems our stories.

Ruth 4:9-17

Who do you identify within the story? Are you Naomi in the middle of your suffering? Are you being used by God to provide hope for someone who is suffering like Ruth?

One of the necessary parts of healing is the awareness of our growth and new wisdom–even new connections with God. You have been through the fire and have come out stronger. Reflect on your growth by asking yourself the following questions: Has your understanding of suffering and trauma changed? If so, how? Do you view the idea of recovery differently? How has your understanding of God changed through your trial and recovery?

About this Plan

Rebuilding Resilience

God can comfort you, strengthen you, and restore you to the person he made you to be. In this study you will explore God's Word and reflect on: finding comfort in God’s Word, rebuilding and strengthening faith, and relationships. This study is part 7 of the Never Alone: Trauma Healing series. While written for the military community, the themes apply to anyone who has experienced trauma and wants to heal.
