Search Me: Inviting God to Examine Our Hearts - a 3-Day Devotional With Darla Baltazarنموونە
Overcoming Sin Through Prayer
I was so blessed to work with such talented friends to finish “Search Me.” But more than that, I was surprised to learn so much more from them despite my being the leader of the project.
As I mentioned in the previous days, it took me a long and difficult time to make progress on the song because I was afraid of what people thought. But my friends were the opposite. They sent me rough demos of their ideas in less than a day when I asked them.
I was so blessed. My friends were not trying to impress me with perfect output. Instead, they simply wanted to collaborate with me by being open to my feedback to create the best song possible. They humbled themselves so that God’s vision for the song could be achieved. Every step of the way, we communicated with one another, and I learned a valuable lesson.
All my plans they fail, I know
So could You help me let it go?
So many times we try to focus on perfecting the little things that we forget the bigger picture of why we do what we do, and more importantly, for Whom we must do it. But in the same way that the open and honest communication from my friends throughout the whole process helped shape my song, being open and honest with God in constant prayer invites Him to shape my heart. By letting God into the parts of us we’re ashamed of, being confident that we have a High Priest who sympathizes with our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:15), we will find deep unconditional love, instead of condemnation. And it’s His perfect love that casts out fear (1 John 4:18)—yes, even my fear of man. When we open ourselves up to a loving God, that is true freedom.
As you continue to invite God into your heart after this reading plan, I want you to pay close attention to what He tells you. Write down passages of Scripture that strike you powerfully and meditate on them. After letting God expose the idols of your heart, consider confessing and talking it out with a trusted friend. Pray earnestly about how you can apply what you have learned. Before you know it, as you walk by the Spirit, you will find yourself becoming more and more like Christ.

About this Plan
When we feel too overwhelmed to work or create, it could be a sign of an underlying fear. These moments are the perfect opportunities to invite God to search our hearts. In this plan, Christian R&B; artist Darla Baltazar shares what was uncovered as she was writing her single, “Search Me,” and explains why letting God examine our hearts is key to walking in freedom.
