Daily Bible Reading – February 2022: God’s Renewing Word of Loveنموونە
February 2
Introduction
Today’s reading includes a parable that Jesus tells to explain what it means to love your neighbor as yourself. This story is known by many as “The Parable of the Good Samaritan.” The chapter concludes with Jesus’s visit to the home of two sisters, Mary and Martha in the village of Bethany. In this account, Martha is concerned with practical matters pertaining to hospitality while Mary is more interested in listening to Jesus teach.
Scripture Reading
Luke 10:25-42
Today’s Key Verses: Luke 10:36-37
Jesus concluded, “In your opinion, which one of these three acted like a neighbor toward the man attacked by the robbers?” The teacher of the Law answered, “The one who was kind to him.” Jesus replied, “You go, then, and do the same.”
Reflect
Jesus answers with a parable the question a teacher of the Law posed. What are your thoughts about the use of parables as a teaching method? What does this parable teach you about love and compassion? How do you respond to the question, “Who is my neighbor?” (verse 29).In the account of Jesus’s visit to the home of Mary and Martha, what caused Martha to be upset? How did Jesus respond? What are your thoughts about this account?
Pray
Lord Jesus, fill me with compassion and help me to reach out in love to those in need. Teach me to focus on those things that are most important and order my steps this day so that my actions are in accord with your will. Amen.
