Proverbs – Introduction To Wisdom

DAY 9 OF 9

The Teachable Spirit

The Father loves hearts that are receptive to his kingdom revelation, and minds that are eager to learn heaven’s wisdom. This passionate desire for God’s insights and understanding is what creates in us the fertile conditions in which divine wisdom can grow. The teachable heart is the spiritually hungry heart.

It is this hunger that Solomon celebrates at the beginning of Proverbs 9. Wisdom is portrayed once again as an elegant lady. This lady has prepared a sumptuous feast and sent out an invitation. The table is set and the wine has been poured. Now it’s up to us. Are we hungry and thirsty enough to answer Lady Wisdom’s invitation and head for her palace?

As we have seen before, Lady Wisdom is a type or a foreshadowing of Jesus. Jesus was called “the wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:30 TPT). Jesus laid down his life so that we who were foolish and floundering could know God’s wisdom and reign in life on the earth. It was the shedding of his blood that made this possible. As Proverbs 9:2 TPT says, “The sacrifice has been killed.”

All that’s needed now for us to acquire wisdom is to be humble and hungry. We have to be humble enough to lay aside our simple thoughts and agree with God’s ways. We have to be hungry enough to want to feast at Wisdom’s table and find God’s righteousness there.

Our pursuit should be this: “I am going to cultivate a greater hunger for your wisdom, O God.”

Imagine Lady Wisdom’s invitation is in front of you right now, unanswered. In what area do you need to agree with God? Express a prayer with humility, asking for a teachable heart, eager to receive wisdom from above.
