Know Who You’re Pursuing
Have you ever met someone and immediately decided you disliked him or her? A few years back, I met a gal in the ladies restroom. She didn’t know me, but I knew who she was and introduced myself before leaving. I think she was just distracted, but I interpreted her lack of warmth as uninterested and felt silly for bothering her. “She is the opposite of friendly,” I thought. “She is not going on my list of favorites.” A few years later, I ran into her again. She remembered me and was actually very friendly … at least on that day.
Unlike us, God is immutable. That means He is unchanging, constant, and fully established in complete perfection. We never have to wonder about His nature altering. Let’s examine three ways of God that are constant and sure.
- God’s purposes will never change. My plans? They continually change. I can’t make up my mind. My purposes will often drive me down a destructive course. But God’s purposes will lead me to good.
- God’s character will never change. You may see me do something “good” like be patient toward a slow driver, yet I’m consistently inconsistent! But not God! His love, faithfulness, justice, goodness, power, grace, mercy are perfectly consistent.
- God’s promises will never change. I can be pretty dependable, but sometimes my promises to myself or to others are impossible to keep. God always keeps His promises. He makes them and never breaks them!
It’s time to really see God for who He is—forever faithful! As we dig into God’s Word today, let’s pursue knowing and relying on Him more through His unchanging character traits. What quality of God do you need to rely on today?
