Is "Healthy" Your New Year's Resolution? نموونە
A Little at a Time – Be Resolute!
I had some friends – a husband and wife – who were determined to start eating better and moving more. They wanted to be healthy and live long, and they knew that there were things in their life that had to change.
But change is hard! Old habits aren’t always easy to break. I knew for them to succeed, they would have to change their thinking about eating right and exercising.
So I began to send them email messages every day – a scripture for encouragement, and some healthy ways of thinking, acting and confessing. Eventually I turned those emails in a daily devotional that has been a blessing to many other people. Here’s an excerpt from day three of “Daily Healthy Thoughts” –
Getting healthy is all about your attitude. Let’s get a new attitude about exercise. It’s socially acceptable to moan and groan over exercising, but don’t get sucked into that mindset. Don’t say, “I hate to exercise” or make “funny” comments about how you look or how you want to get out of exercising. Decide that you are someone who exerts their body. Your body was created to MOVE – just do with it what it was created for. In our sedentary society, you have to make more effort to be active, but YOU WANT TO! Look for opportunities to move that bod. Take the stairs. Park a little farther away from the door in the supermarket parking lot. Do sit-ups or leg lifts while you’re watching TV. Just do little things, every day. Find ways every day to move that bod just a little bit more! You only have to take one walk at a time… ACTION: Think now about when you could squeeze in that walk today.
As they began to just do these simple things and take baby steps each day, their daily habits changed. Pretty soon they were looking better and feeling healthier, all because they put God’s Word first, changed their minds and stayed with it.
The Bible tells us that exercising out bodies is profitable and worthwhile, but giving priority to spiritual things even more so (1 Timothy 4:8). Why not do both and reap all the benefits? Remember – it’s God’s Word that will help you be resolute – determined, bold, and steady!
