Love Remains | A 13-Day Devotional By Hillary Scott

DAY 3 OF 13

“Sheltered in the Arms of God”

Imagine this: A child is walking down a busy street, holding the hand of her father. She feels safe and loved. She trusts the hand that is guiding her because it’s her dad’s.

Now, imagine if the child lost her dad’s hand. How would her attitude change? She would go from feeling carefree and safe to fearful and panicked. A child cannot navigate the world without her father, and neither can we.

I feel the touch of hands so kind and tender
They're leading me in the paths that I must trod

Fortunately, we don’t have to. Again and again in scripture, God promises that He will be with us:

“Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).

“He will not leave you or forsake you” (Deut. 31:6).

“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:20).

He is with us, and He is always ready to help us. Psalm 46 describes God as our shelter, our protection: “God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not be afraid” (Psalm 46:1-2).

When we lose sight of this truth, we begin to feel anxious and afraid, just like the child who loses her dad’s hand. When we hold fast to the promises of God, we feel safe, protected and led.

Maybe today finds you in a scary, dark or difficult time, and you’re wondering if God is near. Let the promise of His nearness and protection reassure you today. No matter what storm you’re in, you have refuge in the Father.

So let the storms rage high
The dark clouds rise
They don't worry me
For I'm sheltered safe within the arms of God
