Day 20 — O Come Let Us Adore Him

We’ve seen some extreme circumstances this past year—the kind that wear on emotions and tempt us to fall into discouragement. It’s especially important during times like these that we take time to do what the chorus says in the beloved Christmas hymn “O Come Let Us Adore Him.” As the song says, we need to come and adore Him. 

This is what Christmas is all about—adoring Jesus. In case you were thinking our adoration of Him is just for His benefit, it’s not. It’s for ours, too! 

To adore, according to Merriam Webster, is “to worship, honor or love devotedly.” When we purpose to adore Christ, we take the focus off the world and our problems, and we put it back where it belongs—on the One who heals, saves, delivers and sets free. 

When you learn how to adore Jesus and meditate on who He is, you can move into a believing faith that always receives! Just think…He is your Jehovah Jireh (your Provider), your Jehovah Rapha (your Healer), your Jehovah Shalom (your Source of peace) and anything else you need.

He is worthy of our praise, honor and adoration this Christmas and every day. If you’ve been feeling saddened by the state of affairs in this country and our world, turn your attention to adoring Jesus today. Consider a news, social media and/or TV fast, and instead, spend that time being faithful to renew your mind to the TRUTH. 

Written as early as the 15th century, the author of “O Come All Ye Faithful” was issuing a call to the faithful in Christ to come joyfully and triumphantly to adore Him. Though no one knows who penned the song (some believe it was a group of French monks), the lyrics still move us today to celebrate the birth of Jesus by adoring Him. 

When the song was eventually translated from Latin to English in the 1800s, it went on to become one of the most beloved Christmas carols the world over. You can probably sing this verse from memory:

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!

O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;

Come and behold him

Born the King of Angels:

O come, let us adore Him,

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

Christ the Lord.

Isn’t it tough to stay discouraged when you’re worshipping the Lord? Begin right now. Push play and listen to this song again. Close your eyes, lift your hands and just begin to worship Him for His goodness, mercy and grace. Give Him all the glory for what He has done for you (remember the specifics!). Encourage yourself in the Lord as David did when trouble came his way. Not only will you be happier this Christmas, but you’ll position yourself for a major breakthrough because, as Brother Copeland says, “Praise is the big gun of faith”!
