Day 2 — O Holy Night
Have you ever imagined what it would have been like to be there in Bethlehem the night Jesus was born—to have witnessed the birth of a miracle and the greatest gift to mankind from God Himself?
That’s what Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure was thinking about in 1847 when he wrote a poem titled “Cantique de Noel,” now known as “O Holy Night.” That same year, the music was composed. Little did he know what an impact this poem-turned-song would make on the world!
In 1906, “O Holy Night” became the first song to be broadcast over radio waves. Additionally, the lyrics from its third verse inspired an American minister to use the song as the anthem for the abolition movement:
Truly He taught us to love one another; His love is law, and His gospel is Peace. Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother, and in His Name all oppression shall cease.
It was then that this song was first translated from French to English. Since then, it has touched millions of lives around the world, reminding us of the most precious gift God has ever given and the greatest miracle that has ever occurred.
Above all, that oh, so holy night was about every one of us. God loved us so much that He gave us His one and only Son. To this day, anyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). Further, this Gift to mankind breaks the bondage of sin and the oppression of the devil in your life—if you’re willing to receive it—resulting in goodwill and peace from God. Hallelujah!
Through Jesus, God made a way for THE BLESSING of Abraham to come upon us. Because Jesus was born, died, was resurrected and ascended to the right hand of the Father, we can have life and life more abundantly.
The good news is that we’ve been delivered from every curse and bondage, including lack, poverty, sickness, disease, depression and anything else that holds us back from victory, and that’s something to celebrate this Christmas!
Fall on your knees, and worship and praise God for the divine night Christ was born. What a night…what a Gift!
