Can you grow in grace? 💪
If grace is the unmerited favor of God, can you get more of it?
Have you ever asked yourself that question? I have. The Bible tells us, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.” (2 Peter 3:18, NIV) According to Peter, it is possible to grow in grace. That’s great news!
Have you ever asked a friend or family member for a favor? “Hey, Jim, can you loan me your lawn mower, car, or boat?” We ask for favors because we need something, and we don’t have it. Many of us have asked God for a favor as well: “Oh God, please get me that job, heal my mom, or take care of my kids.” We are not ashamed to ask God for anything. Good...because He’s a great God who loves to give favor.
So, let’s come back to the original question: can we get more favor and even grow in it? The answer is obviously yes. The next pressing question is “How can we grow in favor?” I’d like to present four practical steps to grow in favor:
- Grow in faith: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1, NIV)
- Be humble and give God all the glory: “In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.’” (1 Peter 5:5, NIV)
- Grow in your knowledge of God the Father and Jesus the Son: “Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” (2 Peter 1:2, NIV)
- Be mentally tough: “Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.” (1 Peter 1:13, NIV)
You are not a victim of life. You can take these practical steps in order to grow in the favor of God. He wants favor to stick to you like honey: “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD bestows grace and favor and honor; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” (Psalms 84:11, AMP)
When favor flows your way, it will touch so many lives. You will be blessed to be a blessing because you are a miracle.
