Following Well: Getting Better in Our Walk With Christ

DAY 1 OF 6

The God Factor

Following well must begin with an understanding of who gives us the desire to follow. In other words, every wish for something more in life, whether it is to make a difference in our world, to advance God's commands, or to follow His ways, comes from God. This statement does not negate our natural self-inspired desires or free will; however, it reflects the reality that God created us with desires or aspirations traced to His divine purposes for us.

We need to see the God factor in this because so many things compete for our attention daily, making it challenging to tie our pursuits to God. Deuteronomy 13:4 reminds us who the object, essence, and focus of our following should be. The Lord God is the source, the beginning, and the end; and in Him, we live, breathe, and have our being.

Philippians 2:13 and 2 Chronicles 30:12 highlight God's sovereignty and the fact that God continues to work in our hearts to motivate us to do and follow what pleases Him. While this is true, we also have our part to play in this process. That is why we should commit to seeking God daily as a non-negotiable priority and not only when we need help. Our consistency in learning more about God, learning about His character as we engage the Bible, and digging deeper into how He influences us daily, makes us better in our walk with God and helps us follow Him well.

Prayer:

Lord help me see you today, know you intimately, and lead me to learn your ways as I engage your Word today. Lord, help me to follow after your promptings, purposes, and plans. I receive strength to be in step with you today in Jesus' name.
