Four Things the Enemy Uses to Delay Your Destiny

DAY 1 OF 4

Disappointment

The Bible tells us to be aware of the enemy's snares that we do not fall prey to his plans. Satan is so successful in keeping humans in bondage due to the sly manner in which he sets the trap. We do not realize the destruction that comes from being ignorant of his devices.

We can call satan many names: deceiver, thief, or even trickster, but one name we cannot bestow on him is “fool.” Satan has the advantage of age. He is very, very old and has been studying humans since the time of Adam. He’s seen human weakness and how easily we become disappointed when life or our ideals don’t work out as planned.

Disappointment, therefore, is one of the first strategies used to delay our destiny from the fullness of Christ..

We dream of the ideal marriage, bright children with beautiful manners, a home we can settle and make loving memories in, perhaps a business we pursue, or we envision the success of pursuing our talents.

Then, once married, our spouse might not live up to the standard we thought. The stress of life takes its toll. You may have struggled to become pregnant or suffered the heartbreak of a miscarriage. Perhaps you have a houseful of children, but they are so unruly and disrespectful that causes tension in the home and nights of tears.

Perhaps your business partner walked away, or the recent pandemic left your company in the dire position of filing for bankruptcy. Maybe you were on your way to achieving great success in the sporting arena when you were involved in an accident and could not compete at the level you hoped. Maybe you lost a loved one, or someone fell ill, and you now have to alter all your plans to ensure you can assist the family in need.

Your specific situation might not have been sketched, but the Holy Spirit reveals where disappointment has set in. You are so miserable with how different your expectations and reality seem to be. You are internally questioning God and whether He even cares about the deep sadness that fills your heart.

Today, let us realize that Jesus never said we wouldn’t encounter problems, but that we should take heart in the midst of it all, since He has overcome this world (John 16:33)

The Devil uses the emotion of disappointment to keep us bound and unhappy with our lives. As long as we entertain the deep roots that disappointment lodges into our souls, we will never be able to reach the full potential and destiny that Christ has for us.

Today, dislodge the tentacles of disappointment by asking the Holy Spirit what His view of your life is. How can you accept the current circumstances and yield to His leading and wisdom to navigate the situation unto victory? God would never allow any testing or trial beyond what you can endure and overcome. Remember that in your weakness, He shows Himself strong.

The Devil only has power to the extent that you allow him. Today, this can change. He has been caught out, and he has stolen enough from you. It is payback time!

Prayer:

Jesus, I come to you and acknowledge how disappointment was a snare that I fell into. I cannot release myself from this terrible emotional state since I constantly wish my life was different and my circumstances would change. I repent for trying to do things on my own. I take up the power and victory that you won for me with Your precious blood, and I choose to stand up and overcome. Holy Spirit, lead me and show me my life from your vantage point. Teach me how to become a person who can rise above the situation. I give you glory in advance for the miracle that You are working for my good. I love you, Jesus, and take up the shield of faith. I will run my race and be victorious. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
