Roots and Fruits

DAY 3 OF 5

The Big Idea: Prayer is Our Lifeline to God

“You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. When I am in distress, I call to you, because you answer me.” (Psalm 86:5-7).

Think about someone close to you. Then think of the last time you had a conversation with him or her that was meaningful to you. Why was it meaningful? To maintain or deepen any relationship, there needs to be communication and intentionality! Prayer is a primary way we communicate with God. It is an opportunity to see God’s heart through a new lens, in a new way. When we bring our weary hearts and burdens to God, He delights in that because there are new growth opportunities in our relationship with Him. Smother your fear, burdens and circumstances with God’s grace and perfect love. Prayer is our lifeline, providing access to who God is and what He has for us. God is not looking for just part of us or a temporary version of you. He wants our whole heart because this is where Jesus connects and shows us the freedom we have in Him. And then what happens? Our roots are strengthened, and slowly, fruit is produced.

"In my desperation I prayed, and the LORD listened; he saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the LORD is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.” (Psalm 34:6-7).

God is not looking for just part of us or a temporary version of us. He wants our whole heart! This is where Jesus connects and shows us the freedom we have in Him. This is how roots and fruits grow healthy and strong. The more we dive into His Word, the more He will produce good fruits in our lives.

Take heart, He is waiting for you! Tune into Him today.

Ask Yourself: How regularly are you pouring out your heart to God in prayer? What is holding you back from a deeper relationship with God?

About this Plan

Roots and Fruits

Christ is within each of us, and He is our helper in times of need. There is hope in this promise—hope that God is going to go before us and fight for us! But our heart posture is crucial as well. Over the next couple of days, we are going to look through some practical ways to deepen our roots by focusing on our relationship with Him.
