Life Not Going as Planned? How to Get Unstuck and Trust God Now!نموونە
At age 21, John Wesley was privileged to attend Oxford University. He came from a Christian home, and he was gifted with a good mind and good looks. Because of these gifts, he was a little snobbish and sarcastic. However, one night his life was forever changed.
Wesley was speaking with a porter and discovered that the porter had nothing but the coat on his back. In fact, he did not even have a bed. The porter was living in such impoverished conditions, but he was an unusually happy person. He was filled with gratitude to God.
Being young and immature, Wesley thoughtlessly joked about the man’s misfortunes and asked, “What else do you thank God for?”
With a spirit of meekness, the porter smiled and said, “Well, I thank Him that He has given me my life and being. I thank Him that He has given me a heart to love Him, and above all a constant desire to serve Him.”
That deeply moved John Wesley as he recognized that this man knew the meaning of true thankfulness. Many years later at the age of 88, he was on his deathbed. Those that were gathered around him discovered that Wesley had indeed learned the lesson of thankfulness and praising God in every circumstance. Despite his weakness as he laid there, about to die, he began singing a hymn written by Isaac Watts, “I’ll Praise My Maker While I’ve Breath.”
No matter what circumstances you are facing today, I hope that your heart and attitude are not filled with arrogance, but rather dependence on your Maker.
Action: Determine today that your dependence and wisdom will come from God and not yourself.
