What Is Worship?

DAY 3 OF 5

Worship Is Proclaiming

Have you ever been dating someone who wants to keep your relationship on the down low? Who doesn’t want to go anywhere publicly with you? Who won’t claim you on Facebook, still pretending to be “single”? As the weeks slide by, don’t you start to wonder if there’s a future with this person? Why won’t he or she acknowledge me publicly?

Can you imagine how God feels when people seem to want the forgiveness and immortality that he promises, seem awfully glad to have his gift pass into heaven when they die, but they won’t acknowledge him in front of their friends? Don’t settle for an invisible relationship. Go public! Be proud of your Savior and King! Wear the colors! Stand with the team! “Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done” (1 Chronicles 16:8).

Worship is proclaiming. Worship shows the world that you are proud to be one of God’s children and servants, Jesus’ brothers and sisters, joyful members of his PR and communication team. In a world full of confusion, ignorance, and brokenness, worship shows that you believe the words of the Bible to be true. You can most certainly worship God quietly in your home. Do that too. But let the world see you go to church, assemble with other believers, participate in a joyful and loving fellowship, and bring value to your community.

Public worship shows that you are proud to be called a Christian.
