Growing as an Enneagram Five: The Thinker

DAY 1 OF 5

Your Knowledge Reflects God

Dear Five, do you know you uniquely reflect God? In Genesis, God says that He made us in His image. Now, this doesn’t mean our bodies look like His, but rather that we reflect His image by reflecting parts of God’s character. It’s not a perfect reflection; in fact, it’s rippled and marred. However, a familiarity, a family resemblance, is still plainly evident between God and His creation.

God is so mighty, majestic, and perfect that none of us can reflect every part of Him, so we see His attributes scattered throughout the entire population. Each of us is reflecting Him in unique and very important ways. This is why we hear about each of us being a part of God’s body in Scripture. Each of us is uniquely made for a divine purpose; each of us alone is just a piece, but together we are whole.

As a Five, you reflect our Father’s love of knowledge, His wisdom, His unbiased nature, His faithfulness, His desire for truth, and His self-control, just to name a few. These are attributes of God that your soul recognizes, runs toward, and acts in, especially when you’re healthy.

When you act out of your desire for knowledge, have self-control, or choose objectivity over your own emotional biases, you’re showing the world a part of God that brings glory to Him. Showing the world the very nature of God is the greatest honor we inherit as part of His creation, and as Christians, this is our very purpose.

God’s understanding, His knowledge, and His wisdom is unsearchable. It’s overwhelming to even think about this. He is the One who created knowledge, our brains, and the ability for us to learn. Fives tend to understand this very well, which enables them to naturally view themselves humbly.

When you are drawn to a pursuit of knowledge, you can’t help but be in awe of the Creator of knowledge and the Creator of whatever you happen to be studying again and again.

First Corinthians 14:33 reads: “For God is not a God of confusion.” We see the truth of this even in His creation. God’s creation makes sense, and we are continually putting together the pieces of this vast puzzle. Mathematics, astronomy, engineering, economics, psychology—there is a myriad of areas of study where we are still figuring out how God’s creation works, and it fascinates us.

About this Plan

Growing as an Enneagram Five: The Thinker

The Enneagram is an ancient personality typology. The theory behind it is that a person assumes one of nine personalities in childhood as a reaction to discovering the world as a scary, unkind place, and thus unlikely to accept their true self. This devotional is designed for Enneagram Fives, also known as the Thinker.
