"You Have a Part to Play"
I don’t know if you’ve ever done any acting, drama or theater. If not, here’s your chance! Actors often only get the lines that they need to recite. Then, after reading the lines, they have to figure out what the character was thinking and feeling. They have to figure out his or her motivation. They need to get behind the lines and discover why they were being said.
Try it:
Ms. Foot: “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body.”
Mr. Ear: “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body.”
What feelings would prompt a statement like that?
How did Paul respond to feelings and statements like those (verse 17-19)?
It seems like Paul tried to drive home one message: Don’t Underestimate Your Role!
You may not play the central role on your team, but you play a crucial role. You may feel out of place in this community, but you have a place in the Body. The uniqueness that God built into you wasn’t accidental. You play an irreplaceable part on this team, in this community, and in Christ’s global body. Don’t forget that. Take confidence in knowing that God stands ready to use you—your history, your experiences, your gifts, and your shortcomings—on this team and in this community.
What’s one way you can offer your uniqueness for the good of others today?
