You Are Loved
In case you haven’t heard it today, God loves you more than you’ll ever comprehend. You are His creation, and His love for His children is unconditional; there’s nothing we could ever do to lose it. We’ll never earn God’s love, but it’s a gift he joyfully gives us.
While no one else will love us as magnificently and perfectly as God, most of the time our family and friends do a great job of showing us that they love us deeply too.
In the Netflix film, VIVO, Gabi and Vivo grow to love each other as they work together to deliver Andrés’ song to Marta. Vivo also comes to appreciate Gabi’s ability to improvise and learns from her example when confronted by the dangerous snake in the Everglades. Discovering the talents and seeing the potential in the people around us is an important way we can show them we care. And of course, Vivo’s entire journey to give the song to Marta is so that she will finally know just how much Andrés loved her, even after all these years.
If we are ever not sure what love looks like, we can read 1 Corinthians for a definition. The verses give us the best image of what love should be, “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)
When our parents are patient with us, that’s love. When we are kind to friends and even strangers, we are showing them love. When we let others go before us, or give the last cookie in the jar to our sister or brother, that’s love too.
Never forget. God loves you. Never forget your family and friends love you too. And when you know deep-down that you are loved, you are now free to love others too!
Pray today: Dear God, thank you for loving me unconditionally. Help me to notice all the ways my family and friends show me love each day. I pray that you will remind me to actively love the people in my life too. Amen.
