ACCOUNTABILITY
"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad."
2 Corinthians 5:10
Life is very uncertain. Someone who used to be a villager a few years ago can now become president. On the other hand, someone who was successful in the past has to beg on the street now. Some healthy people suddenly die while sleeping. Some people died because of the sudden flood. If life is so uncertain, then how we live our lives is very important.
We have to pay attention to how we live. God will not care about the way we die; He cares about the way we live. Jesus as God also experienced death in a dishonorable way. Jesus was hanged on the cross with the following inscription written on it: “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree” (Gal. 3:13). However, there was a beautiful plan behind this incident.
Life in this world is only temporary. A proverb says that we are like someone who stops by for a drink. We are just immigrants and nomads (1 Pet 2:11). Therefore, our attitude must show that we are immigrants and nomads. The Bible advises us, “... See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise.” (Eph. 5:15). In addition, everyone will appear before the throne of justice and be responsible for what he has done throughout his life. Yes, we will be responsible for the way we live in this world. Nothing will be missed, and none will be able to escape from it.
Therefore, let's make the best of it in this short time. The Bible states that life is like someone going camping whose tent will be demolished one day. The tabernacle is our body, and our bodies will be dismantled one day. However, the Lord tells the believers that,"... For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” (2 Cor 5:1). It’s truly extraordinary! It will be the moment we all look forward to together. Now is not the time to be lazy or reluctant to serve the Lord. Instead, we should be more active to sow in the Spirit so that we can reap eternal life from the Spirit in His time.
Reflection
1. What kind of life do you live right now? Are you ready to give accountability before the Lord anytime?
2. How will you choose to live your life until the end?
Application:
Have a life that pleases God before that time comes to pick us up!
