Walking With Jesus (Perseverance)نموونە
Why?
As a child, almost all of us at one stage will constantly ask, "Why?" Whatever answer we give to them, the children will again ask, "Why?" The children would then answer, "Oh, I see" flatly, even though we have tried to be patient in giving answers that can be understood by them.
It is not uncommon for God's children to act the same way. We ask, "why?" like children when we are sad or experience difficult situations in our lives. We think that if we know the reason, we will be able to control our situation. In other words, we think that if we know God's purpose in an incident, we will easily survive because we know for sure that our pain is for a good cause.
We really will not be able to see God's purpose in trouble when we are in the midst of that difficulty. He expects us to persevere in that situation in faith when He does not reveal His purpose to us. Do not lean on our understanding of that situation. The verse above gives assurance to us that everything happens for a purpose. Whatever the specific purpose for each of us, the general purpose is the same: to teach us, prepare us, and equip us to live a successful life in faith.
We must remember that our education in life to be perfect like Christ will never stop for the rest of our lives. We will continue struggling from one difficulty to another difficulty until we return to our Father's house in heaven. Do not expect to enjoy a holiday from adversity while we are still in this world.
Let us remember the truth of the above Bible verse from the book of James whenever we think of asking, "Why?" It is part of God's plan to mature us. We will never know why, but we can trust that it is part of His curriculum in our journey of faith.
Reflection:
1. Take an example when you ask "Why?" in a struggle. When did you understand God's purpose through this incident?
2. What is your attitude after understanding God's purpose in the incident you have experienced?
Application:
Remember that God will not forsake you when you are in a struggle. Be thankful that His presence and care for you is not based on feelings but on His faithfulness to keep His promises to you.
