Daily Bible Reading – August 2021: God’s Word of Promiseنموونە
August 4
Introduction
The book of Deuteronomy is presented as Moses’s last words to the generation of Israelites who are ready to enter and occupy the Promised Land. Over the next sixteen days, we will be reading excerpts from Deuteronomy. Today’s reading is Moses’s first speech in which he reviews Israel’s wilderness journey from Mount Sinai to where they are now camping in the plains of Moab.
Today’s Scripture Reading
Deuteronomy 1:1-33
Today’s Key Verse: Deuteronomy 1:11
[Moses said:] “May the LORD, the God of your ancestors, make you increase a thousand times more and make you prosperous, as he promised!”
Reflect
The first generation of Israelites that came out of Egypt was unfaithful during the forty years they wandered in the wilderness. In what ways did God care for the people throughout their journey (verses 29-33)? In what ways have you experienced God’s care?
Pray
God of promise, teach me to follow your commands and guide me this day. Draw me close to you in the safety of your love and care. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those who work to ensure public safety
Tomorrow’s Reading
Deuteronomy 4:1-14: Moses speaks to the new generation of Israelites.
