Through the Bible: Nehemiah

DAY 1 OF 4

Rise Up and Build

And I told them of the hand of my God that had been upon me for good, and also of the words that the king had spoken to me. And they said, “Let us rise up and build.” So they strengthened their hands for the good work.
Nehemiah 2:18 (ESV)

Whenever I am tasked to do work that requires help from people, I am often very skeptical. The reason being that many people do work grudgingly and require a lot of persuasion. When I read this scripture, it reminded me of a group of people that I can always trust to help and they are Christians. I remember vividly when I first became a Christian, I was moving house and needed help. A group of new Christian friends joyfully helped and they went the extra mile asking what more they could do.

Prayer

Father in heaven, I pray that You reveal in us a new heart. A heart that joyfully helps build up Your Kingdom on earth. Give us the strength and skills needed to go the extra mile to help others. When we are tired, give us strength; and when we run out of ideas, give us wisdom to carry on. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Nehemiah

Following Zerubbabel and Ezra, Nehemiah’s rebuilding of the city wall in Jerusalem is the last part of the trio. These leaders helped the Jews withstand all opposition and restore their identity as a nation. The two volumes of Ezra-Nehemiah send a strong message to us: God is faithful to the covenant with His people. We might go astray, but God will always bring us back to the Promised Land.
