Freedom From Porn Begins Hereنموونە
Day 11
Renewing the Mind
One of the most powerful things that we can do in life is to meditate on the truth.
A study by psychologist Dr. Paul Meier showed that those who practice almost daily Scripture meditation are significantly healthier and happier than those who do not. To outgrow porn, meditation is a must.
What we think about changes us!
On Day Two, we looked at how Micah replaced his false beliefs and rationalizations with truth. It was a crucial step toward freedom. He renewed his mind.
Today we are going to practice renewing our mind through scripture meditation.
I couldn't think of a better verse to meditate on than one about renewing our minds! So today we are going to spend 5-10 minutes meditating on this scripture.
This is an important exercise, so don't rush through it! Even if you are very familiar with this passage, ask for fresh eyes and a teachable heart so you can learn something new. God’s Word is multifaceted and always has new insights to give.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” - Romans 12:2
Today’s Challenge:
Follow Parts 1 and 2 of meditating.
Part 1: Read this scripture multiple times. Each time emphasize a different key word. Read it to yourself and read it out aloud.
Set a timer for 1-2 minutes.
Sit in silence with this verse on your mind as you think about its meaning and application in your life.
After this time of silent meditation, answer this question: What stuck out to you about the verse?
Write one summary sentence from your meditation.
Part 2: Dig a little deeper in the passage by answering these questions:
- What are the commands in this verse?
- How would you define these words?
- Conform
- Transformed
- Renewing
- How does change take place according to the first part of Romans 12:2?
- According to the last sentence of the verse, what else results from renewing your mind?
- How do you think God wants to renew your mind?
- What’s a goal for spending more time in God’s Word?
