When the Battle Feels Too Bigنموونە
“When all I see is the battle, You see my victory
When all I see is the mountain, You see a mountain moved
And as I walk through the shadow, Your love surrounds me
There's nothing to fear now for I am safe with You”
How do you keep your eyes on God during a battle?
The enemy knows that the best way to defeat us in battle is to get our eyes off the One who is leading us. It’s easy for him to do this when we are in the midst of a long, hard fight. When we are exhausted, our faith starts to waiver, and we begin to focus on the lies that the enemy feeds us. He whispers lies in our ears and if we don’t have our eyes on the Lord, it’s easy for our minds to start to believe them.
Yet, when we remember what the Lord has done for us before and view things from a perspective bigger than ourselves, we are equipped to endure any battle. “Battle Belongs,” says that when “we see a battle, the Lord sees a victory” which is a wonderful reminder of His sovereignty over all. Although we may feel defeated, He is only getting started.
As we jump back into 2 Chronicles 20, Jehoshaphat stands up in front of Judah and Jerusalem in front of the temple’s courtyard. There he speaks, remembering the power of the Lord who has done many miraculous things before. “Are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you. Our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?” (v. 6-7).
It’s easy to focus our eyes on the Lord when in battle when we remember how He has delivered us before!! By speaking of the Lord’s powerful provision for the people of Israel, He has boosted morale both in his own soul, but also in the souls of others in the courtyard.
When we choose to focus our eyes on God’s victory, the mountains He has moved, and His love that surrounds us, we can stand steadfast in knowing that we are safe with Him.
Pray with me.
Lord, I pray that you focus my eyes on the mountains you have moved for me in the past. Help to remind me that your plans are always bigger than mine and that you are ever-present, even when I feel alone. Thank you, Lord, for who you are and all you have done for me.
Pray this prayer throughout your day to refocus your eyes on Him and listen to “Battle Belongs”!
