Hope for the Holidays: Reclaim the Joy of Jesus This Christmas

DAY 3 OF 7

Hope for Depression

Depression can sometimes sneak up on us over a long period of time. The devil would like to wear us down through a prolonged sickness or an extended time of stress. After standing in faith for a particular situation month after month (or year after year!), we may eventually feel like David did and sigh, “How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?” (Psalm 13:1).

David started off feeling that way in Psalm 13, but in two short verses (5 and 6), he had the perfect antidote for depression: trust in God’s mercy, rejoice in your salvation, sing to the Lord, and remember all the things God had done for you in the past. We celebrate Christmas to remember the birth of Jesus and His eventual death and resurrection to bring us into a relationship with our heavenly Father.

Action Step: Take time to listen to your favorite worship songs. While you listen, recommit yourself to trusting God’s mercy, praise Him for redeeming your life on the cross, and encourage your faith by listing specific victories He has given you in the past.

About this Plan

Hope for the Holidays: Reclaim the Joy of Jesus This Christmas

Our world has taken a joyful event and turned it into a frenzy of materialism and exhaustion. God never planned it that way. The birth of Jesus was meant to bring love to the lonely, hope to the hurting, and peace to the weary. Reclaim the joy of Jesus this holiday season!
