What Now?

DAY 3 OF 3

Find Your People

So we’ve talked about sharing your story. We’ve talked about taking small steps and starting where you are. Now let’s find your people.

In Acts 9, Saul (who later becomes Paul), has a come-to-Jesus moment...literally. This encounter leaves him temporarily blind but permanently changed. And what does he do once his sight is restored? Verse 19 notes that he joined the disciples. Saul received a new name (Paul) and a new identity. As soon as he could, Paul sought out and found community, and it is within this community that Paul’s ministry took off and began to grow.

Time and time again, the Bible shows us the importance of community. In Acts, the first church made a point to share a meal and hang out. Ecclesiastes 4:12 (MSG) goes as far as to say, “By yourself you’re unprotected. With a friend you can face the worst. Can you round up a third? A three-stranded rope isn’t easily snapped.” Even Jesus went out of His way to find a group of people He could do life with (12 disciples, anyone?).

Maybe you think you’re better off alone because you haven’t always had the best experience with people or past friend groups. Or maybe you already have a group of friends you hang out with, but you’re not sure if they're the best influences to be around. Maybe you just don’t know where to start.

An easy option would be to join your church’s youth group or get into an eGroup. Find ways to get involved and serve alongside other teens your age. Ask God to put people in your life who you can connect with, whether it’s at church, school, or work.

The point is, the people you surround yourself with are important. A good community will encourage you and help you grow in your walk with God. They will pray over you and remind you of what God has spoken over your life.

What steps can you take today to find your people and build your community?

There’s an Elevation YTH Online eGroup waiting for you — and you can join from anywhere in the world. After you sign up, you’ve just got to commit to show up and then open up. Be there, be real, and be open to what God wants to do through you!
