Trusting in His Promise
Devotional:
Where do you turn when life is not going the way you expect it to go? It can be easy to become defeated or lost when our lives do not seem to be going according to our plan. In those moments, it is important that we turn to Christ and trust in Him. Olympic diving gold medalist Laura Wilkinson shares about trusting in God’s plan.
Stories like Laura’s are not something unique to today. There are many Old and New Testament people who had similar experiences. They came to realize that our individual plans are not always the same as the ones God has in store for us. They also had to trust in God’s plan for their life. Think of Sarah and Abraham’s wait for a child, or Joseph being sold into slavery by his brothers. Both Laura and the people of the Bible chose to trust in God and His plan for them. We will all experience times in life when things do not go as planned. When they come, take a moment to remind yourself that God’s plan is far greater than your own. His plans are “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11).
Live It Out:
- Apply: God’s plans are far greater and more spectacular than any plan of our own. Rejoice in the wondrous things He has in store for you!
- Pray: Pray for these athletes, that they would keep trusting God with their dreams, and that God's grace would be sufficient for them.

About this Plan
The journey of an athlete to the Olympics has many parallels to our journey to a closer walk with God. Paul uses the comparison in his letter to the church at Corinth where he mentions a runner's pursuit of a prize. This plan features the stories of Olympic athletes who compete with Biblical guidance. Their pursuit of a gold medal is based on trusting God, not performance alone.
