Who Am I?

DAY 5 OF 11

Heirs to the Grace of Life

1 Peter 3:7

Of all the titles that express God’s great love for us, this is one of the most excellent. The outpouring of grace is a wondrous gift that all children of God have received. We were equally helpless and hopeless until the God of all grace came to our rescue.

An excellent definition of grace is offered in Strong’s Concordance:

The divine influence upon the heart and its reflection in the life.

This spiritual impartation can also be defined as:

  • Unmerited love from God
  • Imparted ability from God
  • Abundant generosity from God toward His people

To the Corinthians (a church that definitely needed grace) Paul expressed a profound insight. He explained that even though Jesus was rich, He became poor, so that we, through His poverty, might become rich. Jesus? Rich? That’s hard to imagine, isn’t it?

However, Paul was not talking about earthly, temporal riches. The Son of God was rich in celestial, eternal things. He was rich in the abundance of heaven. He was rich in undisturbed fellowship with the Father. He was rich in the overflow of infinite peace, joy and love. He was richly clothed in the splendor of paradise. But He divested Himself of His radiant, majestic “garments” to assume the poverty stricken form of Adam-flesh. When He went to the cross, He was reduced to even greater state of poverty, for the one thing that did enrich Him—the presence of the Holy Spirit—departed temporarily.

If we connect with Jesus at this, His poorest point, He graciously responds by pouring the wealth of heaven into our bankrupt lives. In His death, the One who was most deserving took the place of the least deserving, then shared with us the abundance of heaven. Yes, this is the grace of God!

DECLARE WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST

I declare that I am an heir of the grace of life. Though I was bankrupt spiritually, in His great love, God has poured the wealth of all that He is into my life. Because I am under grace, sin shall no longer have dominion over me. This day, I approach the throne of grace boldly, expecting to find mercy and grace to help in the time of need, in Jesus’s name, Amen.
