Rad Dad!

DAY 2 OF 6

How has becoming a father changed your perspective on a Father’s love for his children?

This might surprise you, but it took a while to sink in that Frankie was really our daughter. I mean, she did look like a little blue alien for a few minutes there, but over the past 10 months I’ve grown to love her more and more everyday. There have been a lot of ups and downs, but the experience has been something I will never forget.

Steadfast is a good word to describe how I’ve felt at many points, resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering. It's not exactly what I expected to feel or what the movies made me think being a parent was like. It’s made me think a lot about how God has been and will continue to be there for us regardless of what comes our way or how we treat Him. It’s not pretty all the time, but he’s here for the long haul. I take comfort in that. I will be there for Frankie no matter what comes her way and I’m glad that I can lean on God’s example of that.

God has been there in my life through the best and worst times. He has been faithful to provide for us and challenge us when we need it. I don’t pretend to understand why, but I’m thankful nonetheless. As I hold my daughter at 3am or change another dirty diaper, not everything is fun but it is certainly worth doing for her.
