WEEK 4
Scripture
As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. - Proverbs 27:17 NKJV
I read a quote from one of my favorite creatives, C.S. Lewis, that stuck with me as a creative. You may be familiar with him as the author of The Chronicles of Narnia, but perhaps you didn’t know that he was also a Christian. The quote said “what I owe to the Inklings is incalculable. Is there any pleasure on Earth as great as a circle of Christian friends by a good fire?” The Inklings were his group of friends and peers who were also creatives, authors and academics, who would come together to write and create. One of the members of the group, J.R.R. Tolkien (the author of The Lord of the Rings) converted C.S. Lewis back to Christianity after he strayed from his beliefs. This is a great story to display the importance of being surrounded by great friends. It’s very important for us as creatives to surround ourselves with people who will push us, show us the right way, and sharpen us - just as iron sharpens iron.
Prayer
Lord, I want to thank you for allowing us to come before you week after week, and I want to thank You Lord for Your grace and mercy. Today, I ask that You will surround me with friends, family, teachers, and role models that will speak the good news to me. Surround me with people who will lead me back to You if I walk away from You. Let the people in my life sharpen me in all that I say and do. I want to thank You for continuing to surround me with people who sharpen me like iron. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
Creative Challenge
This week’s challenge is simple and related to the scripture we are meditating on this week. I believe that the success of a creative is directly correlated to having a good creative circle. This challenge provides us with a great opportunity, to be honest with one another, critique each other’s work, and sharpen each other. The challenge is to find a person that you trust and have them critique your graphics from last week’s challenge. Be open to their suggestions and re-visit your work to make some edits. Get sharpened, and go out there and create your week!
