Reflecting Christ in Fatherhoodنموونە
To finish up this study, today we will focus on the action we can take to be better Christian fathers, specifically focusing on practicing forgiveness:
First, let’s earn the respect of our children. We cannot force it. Second, let’s ask for forgiveness when we make mistakes and sin against our children - or their mothers. This is why we must model Christ-like attitudes and actions. Fortunately, most children are very responsive and forgiving. Many Christians get confused at this point. They forget that forgiveness is an act of the will. We can truly forgive and yet continue to have some negative feelings toward people who have hurt us. The true test of our forgiveness is not that we have eliminated all of these negative emotions, but whether we allow them to keep us from doing what is right. In time, of course, these negative feelings will also dissipate and come into conformity with what we have already done as an act of the will.
