[5 Conversations With Christ] Anxiety and Worryنموونە
Change Up the Groove
In the past, people used to play albums, or records, on a record player. They are also known as vinyl. The needle goes into the grooves and plays the music. When I put the needle on, this record, no matter how old it is, will play the same song each and every time. With anxiety, you have the same thing happen in your life.
Just like a record has grooves, your cognitive error is a rut. Everybody’s been telling you, “You ain’t nothing but a hound dog. You ain’t never caught a rabbit. They said you was high class, no, you're not.” You tell yourself, “You’re fat. You’re ugly. You’re stupid. You’re terrible. You flunk at everything in life.” You have a relationship problem, the needle drops down, and the song plays in your mind: “You ain’t nothing but a hound dog, crying all the time.” Ten years later, you’re married, and that was going to solve every problem: “You aint’ nothing but a hound dog, crying all the time.” You tell yourself this is what God thinks of you: “You ain’t nothing but a hound dog.” You are convinced everyone else believes it too.
Anxiety makes you repeat the groove. Grief can set a groove in your life. Traumatic experiences can also do this. The way your body is arranged chemically can set the groove. Maybe you haven’t had more than a week off in 30 years, and you wonder why you’re anxious. You’ve been in fight-or-flight mode forever.
Jesus told the disciples, “Don’t worry about your life.” He comforted them, but he also challenged them to believe God can provide. God knows our needs before we even ask. He resets the groove. When you accept Jesus into your heart, He takes the old record of your life, all that wreckage, and He does something brand new. He starts rewiring you. We need Jesus Christ to get us out of the ruts we’ve been in for a long, long time. It takes heart work and hard work, but we can make it through. We’ve got our feet on the Rock.

About this Plan
The 5 Conversations with Christ series explores five of Jesus’ conversations in Luke. This plan focuses on Jesus’ words to his disciples regarding worry about what they would eat or drink. Anxiety wears us out emotionally, and it wears us out physically. Know that Jesus can meet you right where you are. With Him, your mind can be renewed, and He can set you on a new path.
