Friendship

DAY 38 OF 42

Wednesday: He is Our Faithful Friend

SOAP: Proverbs 18:24

There are companions who harm one another,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Devotion:

Some of us have not only been disappointed by our friends, we have been seriously hurt. Close relationships are a gift of God, but with closeness comes certain risks. The people closest to us can hurt us in especially painful ways, even abusing or taking advantage of us. We may have experienced other friendships that were healthy and positive, but even one seriously harmful relationship can make it difficult to maintain others.

When our understanding of relationships has been marred by abuse, we can think God works the same way. Our God offers hope and comfort to us when we have been abused or abandoned. We are promised that God is faithful to us in ways that no friend or family member can ever be. He never changes, He never fails, and His promises are always fulfilled. We have been given the gift of Scripture to remind us of His faithfulness. Over and over again He sees us, loves us, and refuses to give up on His children.

Prayer:

Thank You, God, that You are faithful and good! Bring me comfort, God, when I am hurt by others. Help me trust You despite the evil around me and bring me peace that can only come from You. Amen.
