Serving as Jesus Served

Be prepared” is the classic Boy Scout motto. It is also God’s serious call to us, His people: Are we prepared for—and are we watching for—the second coming of Jesus?

No one knows when He, the sacrificial Lamb of God, will return to this earth as the victorious, reigning Lion of God. But we who love Jesus are not to wait idly for that moment. We are to stay busy serving, worshiping, evangelizing, and investing in our relationship with our Lord.

As Jesus taught in today’s passage, when He returns and finds us ready to welcome Him, He will “have [us] sit down to eat and will come and serve [us].” What an amazing reward for our obedience!

And what a blessed obedience it is when we serve people the way Jesus served. When we give ourselves away as our Savior gave Himself away, our service on His behalf is actually a form of worship.

What a blessing to have a purpose in life, a God to serve, and a Savior to love!
