Psychology of Gaslighting: How to Respond in Faithنموونە
We can all do better. I’ll be the first to say that I need to do better in this area. We must hold ourselves accountable to grow, and what better way to start by praying.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for taking me through this devotional on gaslighting.
I ask your forgiveness for when I have knowingly and unknowingly perpetuated this kind of manipulation in the past.
Lord, give me a compassionate heart. Help me to be quick to listen and slow to speak. Help me see others as you see them and respond to them with grace and love.
Lord Jesus, I present my heart and mind before you. I have been hurt by ‘gaslighting’ and I know that the hurt has often meant that instead of ‘guarding’ my heart, I have ‘hardened’ my heart. Jesus, please soften my heart again.
Lord, grant me the wisdom to see through the manipulative tactics that keep me from walking in the full grace, dignity, and integrity that You have called me to.
Lord Jesus, I know that You are not the author of confusion, and so in Your Name, I reject every lie spoken over my life and I hide under the safety of Your truth about me.
Holy Spirit, give me discernment to know your truth and be set free from the deception of the enemy. As I abide in Your word, let Your word abide in my heart and transform me.
Father Lord, teach me to be assertive and kind. To be gentle and yet firm in my character. May my response in all things bring honour to You.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Gaslighting is a sensitive topic that affects us in different ways. Please be gracious and kind to yourself. Engage in practical processes such as keeping a journal and owning your feelings. Your experiences are valid. Your feelings are valid. Where needed, please discuss your situation with a trusted friend or a professional counsellor/therapist.
“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.” — Brené Brown

About this Plan
‘Gaslighting’ is a complex, nuanced term that many have experienced or perpetuated. If you have ever been made to question the validity of your faith, your perception of reality, your lived experiences and feelings; you may have been a victim of gaslighting. In a grace-resistant world full of post-truths, we must learn how to deal with gaslighting by returning to the Truth of God’s Word.
