The Blind Leading the Blind
Think back to your wedding day, with all your excitement and hope for an amazing and intimate marriage. Had you ever seen one?
Sadly, many of us, and maybe most of us, have never seen the kind of marriage relationship we hoped for. Instead, we experienced something in our growing up years that was much less than the ideal. Divorce statistics alone seem to prove that marriage is often like the blind leading the blind to a destination neither person has ever seen!
God’s Word and his Spirit can guide us through a lifetime of uncertainty about relationships and get us where we want to go!
At times, good things like work, hobbies, kid’s activities, and even extended family can undermine the best things, like an intimate marriage. Being preoccupied with making a living can hinder us from sharing a deep meaningful life with our partner.
What in your life may have taken too high a priority? Similarly, have you at times “turned to other things” that have been a part of hurting your spouse?
Now invite the Holy Spirit to speak to you about the things you do and whether they are just good or the best: “Holy Spirit, please show me any pain my spouse might experience as I prioritize other people and other pursuits. Refocus my heart on my partner.” Write down your prayer.
Read Matthew 7:12 and claim its promise.
God wants you to experience his love for you and live out that love with your spouse.
