The Huddle: Women in Competition

DAY 4 OF 5

[THE] Huddle: Surround

Ready:

“Two people are better than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.” -- Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NLT

Set:

We live in a world where we are more connected than ever with the internet, social media, etc., yet we are more alone than ever. Why? We have settled for likes instead of love, perception instead of reality, contacts instead of community, and processes instead of people. God created us to do the messiness of life with people, but instead, we have created ways of false connection that hide our messes from people.

When we read about the creation of the world in Genesis 1, we read how God created the land and the sea, and God saw “It was good.” He created the light of the day and the darkness of the night and “saw that it was good.” He created birds in the sky and animals of all sizes on the land and “saw that it was good.” But after creating Adam, the first human, the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him” (Genesis 2:18).

Everything God created He saw was good but the one thing that wasn’t good was for people to be alone. We weren’t created to be alone or feel alone. We were created to surrender to God and surround ourselves with people.

We need to surround ourselves with people who:

  • Give us Truth when we need it.
  • Give us Grace when we don’t deserve it.

TRUTH

Great leaders on our teams don’t just tell us what we want to hear but tell us what we need to hear. We need to be told the Truth of who God is and the Truth of who we are not. God is God and we are not. The truth is without Jesus, we are not enough. The truth is with Jesus, we are more than enough.

GRACE

I know this is crazy to hear, but we are going to fail. We are going to make mistakes. We will screw up, but we need to surround ourselves with people who will show us grace when we do. People that demonstrate the same unconditional love that Jesus taught us how to give through the gift of grace.

So how do we do it? How do we find these people to surround ourselves with?

We don’t find them. We are them.

Go:

  • When do you find yourself feeling alone?
  • Who do you need to surround yourself with? Those that speak Truth to you or those that show Grace to you?

Workout:

Romans 1:12; Colossians 3:14

Overtime:

“Lord, I do not want to be alone. I want people in my life who will share the truth and show grace. Help me not just find them but to be one of them. In the precious Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.”
