Repicture Obedience at Home

DAY 5 OF 6

Yes is a beautiful word that is the key to unlock the door of greater things. Yes is transformative. Yes is world-changing. Yes is the climax of the obedience journey.

However, our yes is under attack. Remember that noise that prevents us from listening? That same noise also prevents our yes from transforming the world. We say yes to Jesus but say no to sharing Jesus with others. We say yes to moral living but say no to stepping out in faith. We say yes to doing good, but say no to inconvenience. We believe wholeheartedly God CAN change the world. But the difference-maker, the jump from He can to He WILL is our YES. And that yes is hard to give.

A true yes says yes to God AND spiritual authority. A true yes delights in the opportunity to learn from scrubbing toilets AND taking the stage. A true yes doesn’t just say yes to what we want or what we are gifted at. A true yes seizes every moment as an opportunity to change the world because we are in love with Jesus. A true yes seeks out ways to serve with a joyful heart. A true yes says yes, even when it is inconvenient. A true yes is a yes to little things AND big things. Our job is to train our kids to say yes so they can reap the benefits obedience brings. Children that see a true yes in their home are going to be the true, world-changing yes of tomorrow. That yes is the purpose of all of the training we do. Yeses, especially in little things, refine us in ways that big acts of faith cannot.

Our yes opens doors of growth and opportunity. Every yes is an opportunity to see Jesus. When we teach our children how to grow through the yes (whether it is willing or forced- let’s be real), we are giving them the gift of seeing what others see as low and ordinary as beautiful and supernatural. Yes is our reward and honor. Let us train our children to say yes to Jesus in trust and obedience.

Our yes is never a guarantee of what we want, but it is always a guarantee of what God wants. And that is the greatest yes of all.

About this Plan

Repicture Obedience at Home

Frustrated in your parenting efforts to get your children to obey? This devotional goes deeper into the outward action of obedience as what it truly is- an inward posture of love and honor. When we teach our children to obey us, they can then obey their Heavenly Father. Our job is to set the stage for the picture of a lifetime. Let’s repicture obedience at home.
