Do you blame God?

Bad things are happening around the world: COVID-19, riots, prejudice, chaos, sex trafficking, war and abuse. Let’s face the facts: it’s getting rough out there. Our normal tendency is to ask, “Why is it happening, and who is to blame?”

Do you know who is to blame for these challenges?

Some blame the government, China, police, anarchists, corrupt politicians, the Illuminati, the devil or God. Whom do you blame for all the trials and tribulations that you are facing?

Job was such a classic example of someone who lost it all; his children, his wealth, his health and the support of his wife. After he lost everything, his wife’s discouraging words must have really hurt: “‘Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!’” (Job 2:9, NKJV)

Job’s problems continued with the condemnation of his friends. They were sure he was suffering because he had hidden sin in his life. “‘As I have observed, those who plow evil and those who sow trouble reap it.’” (Job 4:8, NIV) 

Everyone Job knew interpreted his losses as a judgment from God. They blamed God for all of Job’s losses and condemned him because, in their evaluation, he deserved it. Wow! The blame game is so common and deadly. It separates us from God and places responsibility for our pain in the wrong place. 

So, whom should we blame? Who’s responsible for all these challenges? I’ve come to these conclusions. We can blame:

1. Ourselves for bad decisions.
2. Others for abuse or mistakes. 
3. A fallen world that needs Jesus. 
4. The devil’s attacks.
5. God’s judgment.
6. We don’t know until we see God face to face.
7. The Illuminati...just kidding!

In my experience as a counselor, it’s time to reinterpret the trials we are facing. Let’s quit blaming God. God is our friend, and “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17, NIV) If we always place responsibility on God, we can’t solve the problems. 

So, God will give you the power, wisdom and strength to face every challenge. The Bible calls you an overcomer, “for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:4, NIV) 

Because you’re a miracle.
