Anxiety & Depression - SE Students

DAY 4 OF 5

When was the last time you heard something untrue but believed it anyway? Do you wish you had asked more questions and been kept from believing it? What would have changed if you hadn’t been afraid to challenge that lie?

Did you know that the enemy wants to tell you lies, through your racing, depressing, and demeaning thoughts? Imagine how free you would feel if you could convince your thoughts of God’s goodness and truth.

Don’t give the lies of the enemy power! Instead, challenge them with curiosity and illuminate them with truth and watch them flee!

In Psalm 77:10-15, after searching his soul for areas of doubt in God’s character, the psalmist again remembered the past. He challenged his prior thoughts. Instead of looking at his situation through the lens of his anxiety and depression, he recalled the truth of God’s character.

God’s character here is demonstrated by his acts of faithfulness in the past. There is great value, in the midst of dark and anxious thoughts, in calling to mind moments in history where God has revealed who He really is. In these verses, the tone seems to shift and the psalmist’s soul was uplifted as he remembered the works of God.

In the words of the apostle Paul, “think on what is praiseworthy...”

How does God want to redeem your doubts in Him through your remembrance of the past? Allow memories of God’s faithfulness to fill your mind. Feel your heart strengthen and rest as you begin to see God more clearly.
