Through the Bible: Judgesنموونە
Victory in Our Lives
“…but may all who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength.”
Judges 5:31 (NIV)
Today we read about how Deborah and Barak defeated the Canaanites in the north. This is documented twice in the bible, once in prose (Judges 4) and once in poetry (Judges 5).
What shines through is Barak’s trust in God. Though hesitant at first, he was obedient. He did exactly what God commanded, and God, in turn, gave His people the power to triumph over their foes.
Through the courageous efforts of Deborah, Barak and Jael, the tyrant king of Canaan, Jabin, was defeated. This was a story that praises the faith and loyalty of each individual who responded.
Even from the very beginning, the Lord worked through the course of events to bring about His will. His people played a part in His sovereign plan.
In our life, we must learn to trust Him and act in faith. When we do things in the Lord’s way and in His will, relying on His strength and wisdom, we will be assured of victory in our lives. When we walk in His plan, He will help us to realise our battles are God’s. When we act on the timing of God, He will empower us to become victorious in our lives.
Prayer:
Abba Father, we want to seek You first always. We ask that You direct our path and allow us to be on Your side as we face the mountains in our life. May we continue to walk in Your wisdom and guidance always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
About this Plan
Judges describes the deteriorating cycle of the Israelites following Joshua’s death. Because of idolatry, the Israelites were oppressed by the enemies. When they repented, God raised up judges to deliver them. Soon they forgot and fell into evil, and the vicious cycle continued. Even today, leaders are sent to deliver us but a true salvation takes place only when our hearts are obedient to the one King who remains forever.
