Peace When Things Are Tough
Have you ever heard the phrase, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”? The lemons, sour to the taste, are a metaphor for the tough situations we face in our lives. But we can turn the tough situations (the lemons) into lemonade when we turn to God for strength.
We all face hard situations. Maybe it’s a difficult test at school, a tough tryout for a sports team, a broken friendship, or a person said something unkind to you. These situations can make it feel difficult to have peace.
But even in our toughest times, when it seems to be the hardest to feel God’s peace, we are never alone. God is right there beside us. He doesn’t walk with us during the good times then abandon us to figure out the tough stuff on our own. He’s always with us, and He puts people (friends, neighbors, teachers, parents, etc.) in our lives to help guide us toward His peace.
Let’s look at the story of Gideon in the Bible. Gideon, an Israelite farmer, was facing a difficult situation. The Midianites were extremely powerful and had taken over Israel. They treated the Israelites very poorly. In fact, the Bible says the Israelites were treated so badly many of them left their homes to live in caves in the hill country.
Gideon knew he didn’t have the strength within himself to defeat the Midianites. But God assured Gideon that He would protect him, and that Gideon’s army would win the battle. You see, life had given Gideon lemons, but God was going to help him make lemonade. God told Gideon to have peace because He would protect him during the battle, and when you turn to Him, He will do the same for you.
In today’s episode of “Cloud City Chaos,” Flash and Glacia were on the run from Rattiform’s robo-bats. Flash worried that Leo and Bubbles wouldn’t come to their rescue. But Glacia showed Flash how to have peace in tough situations! Check out this audio clip.
Ask yourself: Have you ever faced a tough circumstance and wondered where God’s peace went? When you’re facing a tough situation, what friends or family can remind you of God’s peace?
Challenge yourself: When you face tough situations, turn to God. He will give you peace and strength to move forward. Gideon was an unlikely leader, but God doesn’t need the biggest and the best to accomplish His plan. He just needs you to know He’s always in control.
Pray: God, thank You for never giving up on me — for staying with me during the good times and the bad times. Help me to remember You are always in control. In Jesus’ name, amen.
