DAY 8 OF 8

What Matters Most

So be very careful to love the Lord your God

Joshua 23:11 (NIV)

Some of the last few words my seven-year-old son said before he passed away were, “I’m a Jesus Boy. I have Jesus in my heart.”

Through his short life in this world, I learned that the length of time in this world doesn’t matter. For some it may be 70+ years, while for some it may be 7 years only. What matters most is what we do with the time that has been given to us in this world.

Joshua, in his last days on earth, summons the elders, leaders, and judges of Israel and lays out the most important thing for them for the rest of their lives—to love God and serve Him only. More than anything else, this was of paramount importance. Given all that God had done to deliver the Israelites from bondage, the mandate was for them to obey God by loving Him and not as a ritual.

What is our response today to what God has been doing in our lives—given that what matters most is loving the Lord our God?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, please help me put You first in my life, to love You truly, and worship You only. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Joshua

The book of Joshua records the Israelites’ conquest of the Canaanite Land and testifies of God’s faithfulness to His promise. Just as the author says in 21:45, “Not one of all the LORD's good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.” Similarly, when life hits hard, always remember to be strong and courageous and cling onto God’s promises. Sooner or later, all will come to pass.
